Press Release Regarding Presidential Elections Held in Uzbekistan

We welcome the Presidential elections held on 4 October 2016 in a peaceful and quiet environment in Uzbekistan.

We respect Uzbek people’s will which displayed a great democratic maturity during the elections. Our efforts towards improving the bilateral relations in every field with the Republic of Uzbekistan will continue in this new period.

In this regard, we congratulate and wish success to President-elect H.E. Şevket Mirziyayev. We are ready to support H.E Mirziyayev, who has served as the Prime Minister since 2003 and has been the interim President after the demise of the first President of Uzbekistan, Islam Karimov, in his efforts for the welfare and development of the Uzbek people.
